Helpful Tips and Troubleshooting on Set Up, Operation, and Maintenance
The device does not turn on. What should I check?
Check that the power cord is plugged into the PureWick® Urine Collection System and into an electrical outlet. If the power switch does not glow when turned on, ensure the outlet is functioning by plugging in another electrical device.
The device is on, but not suctioning properly.
Follow these troubleshooting steps to ensure the device is suctioning properly.
- Step 1: Ensure that tubing connections are connected properly.
- Step 2: Check the collector tubing for blockage or flow restriction such as pinhead or kinked tubing.
- Step 3: Ensure that the overflow stop valve in collection canister lid is open. The valve floats to the top when the collection canister is full. The stop valve may close if the lid or canister is tipped sideways or upside down. Disconnect the tubing and gently shake the lid to reset the valve down to the open position.
The system is making a gurgling sound after the user has urinated.
There may be residual urine in the tubing. Fully kink the tubing near the external catheter for 15 seconds and release.
How often should I clean the system?
For the PureWick® Portable Collection System: The canister, lid, collector tubing, pump tubing, pour spout cap, A/C power adapter, and system base should be cleaned and disinfected at the time of each use, or at a minimum, daily.
For the PureWick® Urine Collection System: The collection canister, canister lid, collector tubing, pump tubing, power cord, and PureWick® Urine Collection System base should be cleaned and disinfected at the time of each use, or at a minimum, daily.
